Soup Etiquette; How to Eat Soup
Soup is usually served as a first or second course, to eat soup the proper way follow these soup etiquette rules;
- Spoon soup away from you
- Do not over fill spoon it can be messy (two third full is acceptable)
- Do not lower your head to plate
- Lift spoon to your mouth
- Sip from corner of spoon, not tip of the spoon
- No whole spoon in mouth
- Eat without noise
- No slurping

- Never blow on hot soup or play with spoon to cool soup
- No dipping bread in soup (in formal event)
- For lunch, soup can be served in cups with under plate
- If eating soup from a cup use spoon to eat vegetables or noodle before lifting cup to drink the remainder of the broth
- At formal dinner soup is served on wide soup plates
- Soup plate is placed on top of place plate or salad plate
- For last bit of soup you tilt the soup bowl away from you
