Picnic Etiquette
As soon as the weather permits many people choose to enjoy a nice day at the park, at the beach, in their back yards with food and beverage to go along, a romantic picnic, a family picnic, a company picnic or picnic among friends. Picnics are such a lovely way to spend a day outdoors, relaxing, talking, reading, playing games, napping in fresh air and enjoying a casual meal. Although eating outside on a blanket or a picnic table is less formal than an indoor dinner, we still need to follow some basic picnic etiquette in order to impart comfort, enjoyment and consideration.
Easy To Follow Picnic Etiquette
When choosing a spot to spread your blanket make sure it is partly out of the sun, under a tree if possible, most people are uncomfortable in direct sun for long hours
Do not place food basket next to feet (when eating on a blanket)
Also if the park or beach is crowded try to find a place not too close to other groups, a little distance is always preferable, so you can maintain privacy for all parties
When preparing your picnic do not forget to bring disposable or plastic plates, forks, knifes, cups, napkins, bring some soap with water or windex to clean a mess or spills
Most picnic foods are easy to carry and serve, they are not comprised of prepared meals with sauces or foods that need heating, they consist of cold salads, potato, coleslaw, tomato, cucumbers, lettuce, olives, sandwiches, chicken, cheeses, bread, crackers, cold cuts, nuts and dry fruit, fresh fruit, chips, cakes, muffins, candies, chocolate
You should keep your food basket and drinks away from the sun
Food should be served within the first hour to two hours of arrival to the park or beach
If you are planning a couple of meals at the picnic, it is preferable to prepare two separate containers for certain delicate foods (chicken, tuna, salads) so the food can stay fresh and won’t spoil
Ice cooler is always recommended to keep drinks cold [image source_type=”attachment_id” source_value=”447″ align=”right” size=”small”]
Try to avoid smelly, messy foods (especially in crowded area)
Always bring a garbage bag and clean up after you
Always leave your environment in the same clean way you found it
Do not play music too loud [image source_type=”attachment_id” source_value=”445″ align=”right” size=”small”]
Do not talk too loud
Do not leave food around
If the park has picnic tables you should only occupy one and leave the others unused no need to occupy an extra table just to spread the food, like a buffet.
Be considerate , if people come and there are no available tables, only occupy what you need (free one if you are occupying two or more)
You should bring a tablecloth if picnic tables are available
You should dress appropriately, with comfortable clothes
You should behave appropriately, even if it is a romantic picnic for two
