[note]
Good manners and etiquette are too important to be ignored. It is unfair to our children to leave the education of good manners and etiquette to chance. All Children ought to have the opportunity to learn these indispensable lessons.
Starting at the elementary level, schools should integrate in their curriculum an introduction to good manners and etiquette. The school program must cover theory and practice (with workshops of real life situations). In today’s fast paced world the task should not be left to hard-working parents and guardians. In order to impart a uniform code of conduct children must be educated from a young age on the rudiments of good manners and etiquette. These valuable and necessary lessons will not only serve the children but society as a whole.
Until the mid 20th century the task to educate children on proper manners and etiquette was accomplished in schools. The recognized British “children’s national guild of courtesy” (1889) followed with the “Good Manners” chart (1898) in Australia, were created to establish an organized system for proper conduct and manners education. It made sure that young children were already aware of the most fundamental values of a civilized society.
We invite parents, grandparents, schools administrators, principals, teachers and concerned individuals to sign the petition to bring back the teachings of good manners and etiquette to schools. Together we can help our children and bring about the necessary reform.
