Library Etiquette
The library is a place for reading, researching and studying. People have expectations when in the library, that they can pursue their work in peace and silence.
Library etiquette is necessary to maintain order and good behavior at the library. If a person does not follow proper library etiquette he will be reprimanded by a librarian or library staff, if the behavior persist the person may be asked to leave the library. Library etiquette is serious and provide a good conducive environment for research and study or leisure reading.
Follow these library etiquette rules
No talking in the library, no cell phone or chatting among friends, use designated area for such activities
No eating and drinking, unless dry food, chocolate bar or candy
No moving tables and chairs and if you do, please place them back the way you found them
No leaving papers or drafts of work or photocopies you do not need, place in recycling box
If you are using books do not place them in wrong places, leave them on the table
If you are borrowing a book return it on time, make sure it is not reserved and someone is waiting for it
Take care of books you borrow no writing in them or dirtying them with coffee or food, respect the books and library property
Always address librarian politely
Always say thank you for any help you obtain, practice good manners
Behave properly, no public displays of affection
No sitting on table
For group study use appropriate area
No using the whole library table just for you, keep space for others, keep your books and notebooks close to you not spread out (unless the library is not crowded and plenty of available tables)
Put your phone off or on silent
If you are using headphones make sure no else can hear what you are listening to
When using library photocopies or computers use them respectfully as if they were your own
Pay your late fees
Follow each library’s own rules
