Advice for Everyday
- Taking risks is necessary as part of life, but we must not take unnecessary risk or risk that can harm us. We can all recall a time when mom gave us the advice “be careful or you will hurt yourself”
- Follow directions. Whether we are using potentially dangerous power equipment or driving in our car, we must use common sense and follow directions. If using tools, read the instruction manual carefully, no matter how boring it may seem, you will surely learn something in there that may prevent a serious accident, heaven forbid.
- Follow road signs when driving a vehicle, they are there to protect us and those around us.
- If unsure about something STOP and THINK! A moment to stop and think, can prevent a grave error in judgment.
- Don’t ignore warning signs.
- If you find an article of value, you should use your best effort to find the owner of the article before keeping it.
- If someone overpays you, for example in a transaction, alert the person and give back the overage.
- Do not appease your friend when he is angry. It is an exercise in futility. He will only listen to you after he has had time to calm down.
- Do not console a person at their close relative’s funeral. It will be impossible to console a person when the death is very recent. Words are not necessary; your presence is sufficient (of course, if they initiate the conversation, you are encouraged to respond).
- If a friend is in a embarrassing situation and he feels that he needs to be alone, respect his wishes for privacy until he is ready. This will prevent unnecessary added anxiety for your friend.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” Steve Jobs
